Masaru her ne kadar büyük de gösterse animede 14 yaşında liseye giden bir çocuktur. Annesi ve küçük kız kardeşiyle beraber yaşar. Sokak dövüşlerine bayılır ve neredeyse önüne geleni devirir.

Bir gün dövüşürken Dijital Dünya'dan kaçmış Agumon'la karşılaşır ve ikisi ölümüne dövüşmeye başlar ama ikisi de yorgunluktan dövüşmeyi bırakır. Bundan sonra Agumon, Masaru'ya Aniki diye seslenmeye başlar ve ikisi ortak olur.

Fakat buna izin veremeyecek bir kuruluş vardır. DATS. Agumon'nun derhal Dijital Dünya'ya gönderilmesini söylerler, ama Masaru, Agumon'un kendisine ait olduğunu söyler ve bunu reddeder. DATS ise ona başka teklif sunar. DATS' a katılıp Agumon'u resmi şekilde kendi ortağı yapıp onunla birlikte Dijital Dünya'dan kaçıp gelen digimonları kendi dünyalarına göndermeye çalışmalarıdır. Zar zor da olsa başka çaresi olmadığını düşünen Masaru bunu kabul eder ve Agumon'la beraber digimonları kendi dünyalarına göndermeye başlarlar.

Ama digimonlar neden kaçıyor? Bunu bulmak için Yoshino ve Digimonu Lalamon, Tohma ve digimon ortağı Gaomon beraber bunu anlamaya çalışacaktır.
